The question asked is not how to quench the polymerization, but to temporarily halt the polymerization. Using a quench as everyone above has suggested will stop the polymerization, but would then make it quite difficult to restart any polymerization without first isolating the polymer. The most simple way to temporarily halt polymerization so that one can then reinitiate it again is the application of electropolymerization methods where one can control oxidation by the potential applied. As the potential needed is also dependent on pH, pH could be used for some level of control, but would be much more difficult than simple control of the applied potential.
