I would like to know if there is a procedure to retrieve the LC values from an arbitrary FSS.
I mean, there are lots of papers that work with an FSS surface and get they LC equivalence values, for example, in the paper: "On the Bandwidth of High-Impedance Frequency Selective Surfaces" Filippo et al. extract the precises LC values of the FSSs.
I know that you can choose for example a patch array and retrieve its S11 parameter (I only retrieve S11 because I suppose a back metallic plate), and then try to implement an LC circuit and try to tunning the LC values to approach the response to the S11 parameter retrieved from the patch array. But this is a tedious procedure.
Is there a easier way?

well, I understood that you have the structure ready and you want to drive the equivalent circuit with similar S11, right?
You need to represent the structure in mathematical model.. you need to consider resonance frequency equation. Then, you will obtain the values of LC. You can make sure these values are correct by using ADS.
Yes that is the situation. I get the S11 from my structure using for example HFSS and now I want to get an equivalent circuit model with similar S11.
Could you explain in more detail what you refer when you talk about mathematical model and the resonance frequency equation?. Could you share any reference?.

It is difficult to extract LC values for any design of FSS unit cell. But there are some standards for such calculations. You can follow the following paper.

With the Slope Parameters method you can get precise values combining a numerical and analitical approach.
