Ensure that the NetCDF file you want to read/open is not corrupt. You may have to download a fresh data to be doubly sure. All you need to do is use the "Multidimension tools" in "ArcTool box" in "ArcMap".

well netcdf data is multidimensional data so you may need to define header file or the other thing is that you can convert it to ascii then define header information at the top of ascii file and load it again with proper projection. but still I would recommend to use NCL, NCO or Matlab.
You can easily extract your data from netcdf file via Netcdf-Extractor.
It's not important that you don't have information about Netcdf file, because this software is just for extract time series from Netcdf files. This is user friendly. You can watch video help to find out that is easy to work.
