in high rise building, special lateral load resisting system is provided around main gravity load resisting system. the wind and seismic loading gets very very critical with increase in building height. the seismic capacity can be determined by calculating the lateral load carrying capacity of the system.
The seismic capacity of any structure including high-rise buildings depends on the type of the seismic resisting system you provide. For high-rigse buildings there are some special provision you have to consider while designing.
You have to check the capacity of the building as one unit and this include overturning moment and sliding and maximum displacement to avoid pounding with adjacent structures. as well as the capacity of single components specially vertical support as columns and shear wall against shear and bending . you have also to check the story drift and compare it with what is allowable in codes of design
