Engineering geology has its applications in every field of life. If you talk about military they have their separate core named as engineering core which include specialisation in bridge, bunker construction during the war time same things apply during peace (erathquakes, floods etc). If i talk about my countary there is military organisation that has geologists for mappig and engineering geologists for analyzing material construction, quality control. Aggregate study etc..

the question is what do you want to know more about ? First and foremost what is called in Germany „Wehrgeologie“ (Military geological service), Militärgeographischer Dienst (Military Geographic Service), Zentrum für Geoinformationwesen der Bundeswehr (Center of Geoinformation of the German Armed Forces) has a varied history. It combined services which previously were units of their own such as the Military Geophysical Service. For the modern post-war services contact the center in Euskirchen. Due to the reduction and re-organisation of the Bw the peculiar character of this special detachments got lost. Its birthplace is located in the “Wehrgeologie of the Wehrmacht” and in Germany it formed part of the artillery not of the engineering troops.

For those who are able to read and understand the German language I recommend the two volumes written by Obstdhmt Ass.-Prof. Univ.-Doz. Dr. Hermann Häusler “Die Wehrgeologie im Rahmen der Deutschen Wehrmacht und Kriegswirtschaft”, issued by the Bundesministerium für Landesverteidigung in Wien, Austria, 1995.

I started my career as a gunner in a field artillery battery and armored artillery battalion in 1969 as a voluntary in the German armed forces and ended my career in 2006 after military service and reserve duty exercises/ training holding a rank of Colonel of the German Armed Forces Reserve and a position of a Military Geographic Officer SHAPE. Among others, I have given lectures at the University of the German Armed Forces München/Neubiberg and dealt with this topic also from the historical point of view.
