Hyperspectral images of USGS, or any other type, broadly covers LAT & LON angles. I don't know how to find my location on the image downloaded.
To find a particular location on a geo tiff (presumably, you have the coordinates of the point of interest), I would recommend opening the raster in a GIS software. You could use QGIS (download from www.QGIS.org), which is free and open source.
Install and open QGIS, then assign the correct projection system of the downloaded data using the CRS (coordinate reference system) dialogue box. You will find this at the bottom right hand corner of the QGIS window OR if you goto the menu 'Settings>Project Properties>CRS tab'.
Then load your geo tiff using the 'Add Raster Layer' tool.
Now you have 2 options:
1. If you just want to temporarily locate the point of interest: Hover your mouse over the raster and you will see the coordinate where you mouse is pointed in a small text box at the bottom of the screen (labeled 'coordinate').
2. For a permanent marker of the location, I recommend you create a shapefile of points. http://maps.cga.harvard.edu/qgis/wkshop/import_csv.php contains a good tutorial of how to do this in QGIS. The tutorial in the link shows you how to create a point file with multiple points, but you can do the same for a single point as well.
