I want to study the characteristics of the noise of the practical industrial signal. How can I extract the noise from the practical industrial signal? the wavelet packet ? Empirical Mode Decomposition ? or others ?
there are many ways to extract either the noise or the signal. However, which one is the best strongly depends on the previous knowledge/assumptions on both, the signal and the noise, which you can make.
To receive meaningful hints you should give some more details.
Defiantly there are many ways i depends on your signal and what you wan to do with it. You can use wavelet denoising or different types of digital filters.
The first important thing to know is the frequency content of your main signal. Try to find the relevant frequencies which can produce harmonics (multiples of this "central frequencies"). In fact, some times noise is confused with the harmonic distortion in this kind of signals. I recommend you to inspect your frequency content using the Total Harmonic Distortion before doing any extended analysis such as the wavelet decomposition (which is a bank of filters where you have to know also the relevant frequencies of your signal).
