I have been studying the autotoxicity phenomenon in vegetables and ornamental crops in hydroponics, identified responsible allelochemicals, and evaluate their phytotoxicity. I have used several methods to trap/ degradate/ detoxify the responsible allelochemicals for strawberry and other vegetables.
However, I an in search of more suitable physical, chemical or biological methods to avoid this chemical stress in hydroponic solution. In recycled nutrient solution, allelochemicals cause root cell membrane disruption and later hamper physiological processes such as water and mineral uptake, hormonal balance, respiration metabolism, and various enzyme functions mainly. Therefore, I am looking for suitable methods of detoxifying mechanism of allelochemcials (mainly phenolic compounds) either in the nutrient solution or improving the impaired physiological processes mentioned above.
Phenolics are major candidates for oxidative stress. Best option of layman understanding to curb is to go for addition of Activated Charcoal. Depending on the level and intensity of oxidants released. the concentration modulation of Activated Charcoal may help this process.. There may be a better alternative specifically for Phenolics.

Thank you for answering my queries. Yes, phenolic compounds can be adsorbed through AC physically. Our group is working on autotoxicity in vegetables and ornamentals for more than 17 years. We have successfully removed/ degrade/ breakdown phenolic chemicals from closed hydroponic solution using AC, microbial strains, auxins (2,4-D and NAA), suitable root stock, electro-degradation, amino acid application, cultivar selection and also selection of ideal succeeding crops. Still we are in thrust of finding suitable, easy to use, environmental friendly detoxifying mechanisms/ methods of root exudates (mainly phenolics) from recycled nutrient solution in hydroponics. Therefore, I am asking for the expert suggestions in this regards. Thank you again for your answer.
I tried some time ago a polyvynilpolypirrolidone, that is not soluble and retain a good amount of phenolic compounds either in liquid media or semi solid ones.

I also suggest polyvinylpolypyrrolidone; should you need to prepare a filter, to increase the flow you could mix it with diatomaceous earth

conditions for production of seedlings for transplant of strawberry, tobacco and a customer made mulberry seedlings, in order to extract some phenolics.
In regular hydroponic cultivation of different veggies and strawberries no problems
On alfalfa that has high auto toxicity, never had any adverse effects.(field cultivation)

put a methyl acetate supplement in your nutrient solution. This will normally solve the problem
