I have a stator(PMSM) with distributed windings in it. I need to determine whether the windings are wound in the correct direction. Is there a method to do it? The stator has 144 slots with 2 layers/slot. The method that i have in mind: To give a DC current to windings (say 50 A, -25 A, -25 A) and determine the magnitude and direction of Flux density at each tooth using a Hall sensor. But, measuring it for 144 slots will be time consuming. Is there an alternate method?
If you have access to the 6 terminals of the 3 phases, it can be easy to feed 1 phase alone and check that you have the correct number of poles and good N/S transition & pitch by just sliding a compass all around the bore (then doing the same on 2 other phases)

Visual inspection is always preferred. If you have put the PM rotor, rotate the rotor at low speed, then measure the voltage of individual coils in a phase. You separe the phases first, check voltage of a phaes's first coil, first & second coils in series, first , second & third coils in series .......... The voltages must be increasing for remaining coil of the phase. If any one coil in connected in reverse manner it can be known. This presumes that correct coils are connected for all the respective phases.
