If I have a sample of rice husk ash, how can I determine the potential of the material to produce colloidal silica or silica gel?
What are the characteristics of the ash that may affect yield and quality of the colloidal silica/silica gel ?

Simply burn the husk in a muffle, then do an elemental analysis on the residual ash.

Keep the burning temperature < 600 degree Celsius for burning, and then perform elemental analysis for best quality of RHA before using for any beneficial purpose in engineering works
Hi, if you want to use in sol-gel then you need a good quality of RHA. For that control burning required. Generally 600-800 degree Celsius temperature will be good. There are lots of publication regarding that. Please read all those
Incinerate it with different temperature (shall be within the range of 600 - 750 degree Celsius) and duration of incineration. And then, do the elemental analysis.
By doing so, you will be able to identify the range of incinerating temperature at which you will have the desired form of Silica. Mostly, Crystallinity starts to show up after 800 degree Celsius.
