I am trying to evaluate the effect of Oxygen content on mechanical properties of solid-state chips recycling.
In oxidation sensitive alloys such as Mg and Al alloys, determining the amount of oxygen is completely depends on the physical state of alloy. about Solid alloys, I highly recommend you use ICP or flame Photometry.

Mg alloys are readily oxidized.So Oxide films will form on chip surfaces during machining and laying out. Assuming that the shape of the machined chips is cuboid, the amount of oxide in recycled specimens from different size chips can be estimated because this affects microstructure and properties of recycled materials. The amount of oxide is closely related with size of recycled magnesium alloy chip and is calculated by:
O=S.l = 2[xy+yz+zx] .l/ xyz
Where O is the volume % of oxide in recycled specimen, S is TOTAL SURFACE AREA of chips per unit volume, l is theTHICKNESS of oxide film on chip surface, x, y, z is the length LENGTH, WIDTH andTHICKNESS of chip respectively[ Use a suggested method to determine l, x,y,z].
