Q= flow rate volumetric
K= reaction constant
X= conversion
Reaction time = 1/k * ln(1-x) or t=V/Q
I would like To determine minimal height of laterite catalyst what can i use for treating méthylène blue effluent.
This is not an optimization (minimization) problem. It is easy to see that the conversion degree increases with the increase of residence time, tr = V/Q: X = 1 - exp(-Ktr). And V is not reactor volume, but current catalyst volume. Regards,

You ask about basic issues. The mass balance equation for a single chemical reaction occuring in a fixed bed tubular reactor with plug (not piston) flow is:
dX/dtr = (1/cAo)r(X), X = 0 for tr = 0,
where A - substrate, cAo - initial concentration of substrate, tr = V/Q.
In this equation, the kinetic equation (rate law) should be substituted in place of r (X).
Assuming the kinetic equation in the form r = KcA = KcAo(1-X) (first order reaction), after substituting for the equation of mass balance and integration one can get -ln(1-X) = Ktr and then X = 1 - exp(-Ktr).
It follows that the equation given by you describes the change in conversion in a plug flow fixed-bed tubular reactor in which the first order chemical reaction runs.
Plug flow means no axial mixing and perfect radial mixing.
