What is the best way to decrease Arsenic (V) to Arsenic (III) for HV-AAS analysis? I am used to use 2 ml % 20 KI and 2 ml HCI (37%) as explained in Schimadzu HVG-1 manual. However potassium iodide gives very dark orange color to my solutions. In some articles I noticed that they use 5 % ascorbic acid and 5 % KI . What is your suggestion ?

You should go ahead and use the potassium iodide but note that, you have to add the potassium iodide to your digested sample also.
Try to dilute the samples and the orange color should disappear.
The orange color is given by I2.
I am adding 2 ml of 3% KI and 5% Ascorbic Acid and 10 ml HCl (37%) at 25 ml Of sample. Then heat the sample at 50 ° C for 15 min, after cooling bring the samples at 50 ml.
or you can use ISO 11969:1996 revised by ISO 17378-2:2014
