Dear Bernhard, You are absolutely right with your definition and explanation. However, many cases you might have products, which are undetectable in your analysis. For this reason, I prefer calculating selectivity, conversion, TON etc. on the basis of converted substrate mols. So I'd at least check TON with the following formula= n (mol init. substrate)*conversion/mol catalyst that is in case of undetectable products = n (mol init. substrate)*(100-(mol substrate left after reaction/mol init. substrate)*100)/ mol catalyst.
Dear Imre Toth Thank you for your valuable suggestion!
In my case my products ahd been collected in a separate vessel during the reaction by condensation. My question is which one of the above method will fit best to calculate TON for my reaction?
