Apart from citing your own work, there is not really anything else that you can do. What happens 'lies in the lap of the gods'. You just have to rely on the fact that you have produced your best work, in an appropriate journal - and that it adds something current to the existing knowledge-base.
Vitaly - I agree with your response. However, networking, conferences, seminars, forums etc, generally, do not result in a great degree of citation. A researcher who 'canvasses' for citation at these events can look a bit desperate - and the instances of citation coming out of these contacts naturally usually are quite rare.
