Due to capture, transportation stress and unexpected strenuous exercise, ostriches often go recumbent and do not easily respond to therapy. Any attempt to stand the ostrich fails and may die or be salvaged. I believe is due to myopathy. How can I solve this problem.
Dear colleage, I believe that previous feeding is very important to avoid capture miopathy, it's neccessary to ensure adequate amounts of vitamin e and selenium to avoid marginal deficiencies, so, I have a doubt Are those wild ostriches or are raised in a farm?

Well, in that case, perhaps the feed hasn't adequate levels of vitamin E and/or selenium, or it could be rich in unsaturated fast acids that destroy vitamin E as times goes by. To minimize that, feed shoul be kept in a fresh an dry place, some producers add antioxidant substances to minimize the effect of oxidation in the feeds, for the other hand, there are some foods naturally rich in vitamin E such as forage grass and green pastures, finally, is very important to handle the animals as carefull as possible to make them less effort
Yo're welcome colleague, we're glad to help you, I missed to tell you that i've read that some producers add vit E to feed some days before handling and/or inject their animals with sodium selenite in order to correct a possible marginal deficiency of both substances
