Some researchers are of the belief that the speaking-self and the talking to self exist in soliloquy thinking which is a replication of actual conversational exchanges. This concept of dialogic action is consistent with what Vygotsky claims as the social origins of private speech. However, even though language is utilized as a means of communication with others, would not soliloquy provide accessible knowledge to a decision making development and encoding?
From an early age, some are naturally inclined to perform soliloquy thinking. I do not have information about adults.
I suggest reading Bakhtin's Dialogic Imagination (1986). The words in our mouths (and minds) are always socially developed, bearing the traces of others' worldviews and meanings. We know several social languages and only by looking at one through the lens of another can we begin to see the shaping influences of each language (or Discourse) on our worldviews and thinking.
Because we have narrative minds....all the world to us is first and third person "bird's eye point of view" (Tomasello et al 2005) in the "theatre of the mind" (Suddendorf and Corballis 2007).... that's why all grammar (and every other form of communication in whatever mode) is based on S(Subject=protagonist) O(object=antagonist) V (action, or what happened between them) in whatever order you like in all languages....BUT all deaf sign languages are are SOV, which means its the characters that are most important in the meta representation of what happened, is happening, will happen in the past, present or future. Its about time us humans stopped pretending we don't know how we work....of course, its terrible having to admit that even when you do know how we work, there is bugger all we can do about it....because it is modular/encapsulated/not under 'executive control'.....the corporate humunculus in the neocortex, eh what?
