In your opinion, how academics are leveraging from big data technologies today for their research and education purposes?

Big data opens a lot of research opportunities. Once you explore the data and try to get patterns, trends and try to find out different challenges in quality, cleaning and so forth, it's becoming interesting also on how to scale your techniques to adapt to the big data sizes.
