Homo Ludens is a book published in 1938 by Johan Huizinga. It discusses the importance of the play element of culture and society, and is a fundamental part of my PhD dissertation (work in progress). I'm just wondering if somebody else is studying this work and/or have any thoughts about it to share.

If you haven't already, you might want to look at the concept/approach known as "Ludic Design" put forward by Bill Gaver in work such as "Designing for Homo Ludens" (2002) and "Designing for Homo Ludens, Still" (2009). Although this is fundamentally a look at how we can design physical objects and the interactions with them.
Other than that, I have seen similar "ludic" concepts used as a lens to study games such as Pokemon Go (Pokémon GO: Entering the Ludic Society - 2017).
