Please tell me the way of estimation of diet according to weight gain of rats. In fact , I want toknow exact amount of usual diet (per Kg) for rats per day.Please tell me with an example.
You can ask to suppliers of laboratory animals which is Charles River or something eles. They normally have back ground data of their animals.
When I worked with rats, we measured their daily food consumption, as well as body weight gain. In young males (6-8 weeks old), the daily food consumption value was approximately 25 grams/day. Less (~15 grams/day) for females.
Thanks Dr Maddix.You mean that every researcher should measure rat daily food consumption and there is no any reference text?
I'm sure there are references you can use for average food consumption, but it would be more accurate to measure daily food consumption for each rat.
