I am trying to simulate a resonator by following a paper. I am using wave port and I am getting following warning:
" process hf3d: Port 1 supports an additional propagating and/or slowly decaying mode... "
I have attached the HFSS file. Would you please help me to find out the mistake that I am doing?
This means that your wave port may be overmoded. Transmission lines such as coaxial cable and waveguide have a band in which a single pattern of fields exists and travels at a known speed. At higher frequencies additional modes, or field patterns are possible that travel at different speeds. below the cut-off frequency these modes decay exponentially rather than propagate. The warning indicates that you are close to cut-off and the decay may be very gradual, or you are above cut-off, so patterns you don't expect may pay a part. You may be able to improve it by making your port smaller. If you want the other modes you may need to include them explicitly in the port dialogue. I don't use HFSS so I don't know what actually happens if you are close to cut-off or have extra modes, but you may get unexpected or unintended results.
If you have modelled a thin dielectric layer and second conducting layer under the ground then the gap between these may be seen as part of the port and may support higher modes. It will if it is more than half a wavelength wide, unless it is shorted at the edges in which case the limit is one wavelength wide. You should miss this gap out of your simulation.
I reduced the size of the port. Now its not showing warning.
