I am going to be teaching a Qualitative Research methods class in the spring. I was wondering if there were any good sources (articles, books, monographs) providing guidance for instruction about how to conduct ethnographic interviewing. Thanks in advance.
Essential Ethnographic Methods: Observations, Interviews, and Questionnaires by Schensul etal or The Ethnographic Interview by Spradley are great but dated.There is a newer text: The Interview: An Ethnographic Approach (Association of Social Anthropologists by Skinner but I have not read this. I have assigned chapters 3 & 4 from Robert Weiss's text (Weiss, Robert S. 1994. Learning from Strangers: The Art and Method of Qualitative Interview Studies. New York: The Free Press.), along with Esterberg's text (which is my favorite; Esterberg, Kristin G. 2002. Qualitative Methods in Social Research. New York: McGraw-Hill.). I also find that Anderson and Jack's chapter 1 "Learning to Listen: Interview Techniques and Analysis" is really helpful for students.
