I am working on a healthcare and welfare measures of the wards of female prisoners. I have chosen to study female prisons only. My main area of study are the facilities given to the children under 5 who stay with their mothers. Do you know of any similar research in your country?

From a Cameroonian perspective we are still to see mothers and their children in prison. We have a situation where women are squeezed into some small area which is not even sufficient for them to sleep. Facilities for their healthcare and welfare are grossly inadequate and non-existent in most prisons across the country. It is a situation of survival of the fittest that prevails in most penitentiary centres if families and friends fail to come to the help of their loved ones in prison.
