Metabolic uncouplers are chemical substances that can act on the bacterial metabolism in the activated sludge process with the aim of reducing sludge production. Some experiments are described in literature.
I would be glad to know any contributions about it.
Walter, there are lots of articles on metabolic uncouplers but I like these two older papers:

Generally most uncouplers had issues that they were also perceived as being unacceptable if discharged into the watercourse. Rhodia developed an uncoupler that degraded rapidly, so had fewer issues.
