I would like to analyse my non-participant observations by writing vignettes of each session before coding

I don't understand the question. why wld qual research diminish community components.

Altho grantors did not understand and value qual research - this is no longer the case. In fact most NIH studies now require a qual component. Most of the failure of health disparities research to improve healthcare is that the research has been top-down, i.e. designed by White, middle class professionals who are not culturally competent. Qual research, because it is bottom up, i.e. constructed by the lived experiences of participants, has been much more effective in designing health initiatves that are relevant to poor communities of color.
