Mineral based fillers are one of the constituents of bituminous based road pavements. Nowadays, it is important to use materials in a sustainable manner. Thus, limiting the use of mineral raw materials and using recycled materials seems to constitute a good way of a sustainable use of natural materials. We have found that the use of finely crushed ceramics from construction wastes in cement concrete (5% of the volume of cement) results in a concrete with decent properties. Has someone already used such material in bituminous concrete, as the partial/total substitution of natural filler could bring enormous environmental benefits?
