Q1: "Has anyone had any studies pertaining to magnetic field compression?"
Yes.
Fusion studies examine exactly this problem - many designs of reactor rely on the compression of fields either through the use of mobile coils or some other arrangment.
As to their application in space, are you contemplating their use in a drive system or some other sub-system?
I have a few ideas for its use as a drive, and an energy plant. Just for use of traveling back and forth from mars.
In a space environment it'd make it easier to manipulate plasma. Also, building a small scale plasma accelerator in space, uninterrupted by earth's gravity.
I ultimately want to recreate the sun's magnetic eruptions on a small scale.
