I am currently attempting to model the thermal degradation of certain polymers with Aspen Plus. I have found a degradation mechanism and have been able to add all the relevant species using the existing polymer databank in Aspen except one. I am wondering has anyone here had any experience in adding unconventional polymers (specifically poly(acetylene)) in Aspen Plus or Aspen Hysys?
The degradation mechanism creates a co-polymer of poly ethylene co-poly acetylene but I've had to split this up in Aspen to poly ethylene + poly acetylene as there doesn't seem to be a way to add co-polymers and only pure species.

You can define a new material via HYPOTHETICAL tab in component if you know its properties.when you click on it you have to input MW, normal boiling point, Ideal liq rho, acentric factor and critical properties.

Thank you very much for your reply. I couldn't see the hypothetical tab in my current version of Aspen. Would you be able to send a screenshot of what it looks like at your end? I'm currently using an isomer of the polymer I need to model in order to facilitate the relevant stoichiometry.

I think Sam is referring to Aspen Hysys. You can create hypothetical components using those properties.
