I support the idea of the Baltic Earth project very much and enjoyed being part of the first conference in Nida 2016. My personal interest is in Grand Challenge 2 (Land-Sea biogeochemical linkages in the Baltic Sea region).
What is the best way for (young) scientist to get involved in the project and contribute ideas?
Do you intend to use Researchgate as a platform for active discussions?
Thanks for some guidance that might be helpful also for others!

Being involved is much more fun than sitting outside. Please contact the Baltic Earth Chair and discuss this and start being involved in some working or planning group.

Hi Jens, thanks for this question, it is propably something which others have asked themselves as well.
We want to be as littlle formal as possible. One way to get involved would be to contact the Working group chairperson which represents your research interest, and discuss with her/him ways to collaborate; e.g. you could ask to join this Baltic Earth Working group. There you could could initiate or participate in joint research or outreach projects, or organize or help organize workshops or seminars. Also you have access to a wider research community which can be used i.e. to find partners for funding proposals. We ask scientists who are part of the network to give credits to Baltic Earth in their papers (which they condsider to contribute to Baltic Earth). Please send to the Baltic Earth Secretariat a note and link to these papers, so the publication library and homepage can be updated. Another way is to send contributions for the Baltic Earth Newsletter (http://www.baltic.earth/newsletter/index.html).
Indeed this ResearchGate page can be used as a discussion platform. We also have, next to the webpage (www.baltic.earth), a BACC Blog (http://thebaccblog.blogspot.de/), a facebook page, a twitter page (see the website top right) and a newly installed discussion forum on coupled regional atmosphere-ocean models in the Baltic Sea region (http://caom.forumieren.de/). More forums and other social channels can be added, and we rely here on the vivid participation of the scientists, to propose and use this. We are very happy to see young scientists eager to become part of this international and interdisciplinary network. Let us also know when you feel something is missing or could be organized better.

If the Researchgate project site is intended to serve as a platform for discussions, it would be great to add interested people to the collaborators. Who is in charge of this (I think only the person who first established the project site can add collaborators)?
