Much of our geology needs more intensive investigation with the help of new instruments and fresh ideas. But I would always stress on good field work as the backbone of every geological research.

Indeed your words are true, about Bela Ophiolite I want to add that it's need more research to explore geological/tectonic setting of this major suture zone.

You probably would have read the summary of earlier work on Bela in Kazmi and Jan (1997) book and Arif and Jan (2006, paper in J Asian Earth Sciences). Dr Ghulam Sarwar, the pioneer worker on the tectonics of the Bela ophiolite will be visiting Pakistan next month. It will be useful to get in touch with him.

It would give me great pleasure to see any one from my geology dept. at Baluchistan University take up further study of the Bela ophiolite. There is so much basic field mapping that needs to done first before we jump to the question of what it all means. I agree with Dr. Qasim Jan - we need "boots in the field" everywhere along this and other belts in Pakistan.

Your suggestions are worthy for us, it was my wish to work on Tectonics or Metallogeny of Bela Ophiolites. But my current project is on Geology of Raskoh Ophiolites, as you know Raskoh Ophiolite is very small in terms of extension but it can reveal or add something new in the geology of Neo-Tethys. In near future I will engage my research to Bela Ophiolite. Hope your guidelines will be worked as candle light for us.

Sir Ghulam - Sarwar , Currently GSP just completed a PSDP project in Bela and Uthal. They did detail field work for 4 years. Now they have detail data of 13 Toposheets let's hope they came up with some extra ordinary results.
