To be honest, I don't know what your fuzzy system does, and there is probably no single best method to build the fuzzy rule base.

A fuzzy system regulates by means of If–Then rules, and these rules can interpolate between logical actions. So, you have to choose/design the logical actions wisely.

Most beginner fuzzy books tell the reader to translate human expertise into a rule base (If this and Then that...). Sounds easy? But if you are not an expert, the odds are that the translated rule base is unserviceable, unless you are super lucky.

For example, when you tell a person having ordinary driving skills to design a rule base for collision avoidance, they most likely propose only 2 Rules:

• If the obstacle is on the LEFT, then steer RIGHT.
• If the obstacle is on the RIGHT, then steer LEFT.

To a person having expert driving skills, they know these two rules are insufficient to safely avoid collision for ALL obstacle cases. An expert will probably tell you that you need to judge the following inputs:

• the size of the obstacle
• the relative distance of the obstacle
• the relative direction of the obstacle
• the presence of adjacent and oncoming vehicle(s)
• the speed of the vehicle
• the condition of the road

in order to determine the following actions:

• the angle that you should steer
• the deceleration rate of the vehicle
• give a turn signal
• and so on...

My advice for you is to learn the fundamentals to get a good solution. What are those fundamentals? Then you need to consult the experts in your field.
