Is the FAME formed at upper layer or lower layer as upper layer of the mixture is cloudy and the lower layer is more clearer? The reagent I used is sodium methoxide and hexane with the volume ratio 1:1 to the oil sample mass.
FAME will normally be the upper layer, while lower layer will be glycerol.

1. 2.701 g of sodium methoxide is weighted and diluted in 50 mL volumetric flask.
2. Hexane is added into oil sample with the volume ratio 1:1.
3. Sodium methoxide is added to the oil solution with the volume ratio 1:1 to the oil sample.
4. The mixture of solution is stirred vigorously for 30 – 60 seconds by vortex stirrer.
5. After the solution mixture is stirred, the solution mixture is allowed to stand for 10 – 15 minutes to separate out FAME from cloudy aqueous layer.
My result is the clear layer is the lower layer while the upper layer is cloudy.

I support Simon Hammann replay. Through your comments it means to me that you are using non anhydrous methanol for the dilution of sodium methoxide. And in that case the lower layer is clear methanol. And the upper layer it has hexane and with partial solubilization of methanol solution. But if you didn´t control the water contend of the methanol the transterification did not work properly or did not work at all.
