I'm getting stuck on design of substrat integrated waveguide even simple waveguide or microwave components (coupler, circulator,...), my results still not good at all. My mainly problems are :
1- what are the primary HFSS settings should I do ( driven modal or terminal modal).
2- wich port I have to pick ( wave port or lumped port).
So please if you can share your knowledges on design of SIW using HFSS, including exemples in HFSS, papers and suggestions. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thank you very much.

in order to design coupler you need to choose driven terminal, and wave port for simulation purpose.
Please see attached file. An SIW cavity resonator is designed and simulated using HFSS.
