I'm trying to upload to ResearchGate the pdf file relating to a newly published book but I receive the error message: "Error parsing server response".
The file, which is approximately 89 MB long and works perfectly, was uploaded without problems to Google Books (search on Google Books for “libertini vie d'Italia vol. I”) and on another site (http://www.iststudiatell .org/p_isa/NE/Vie_e_città_Italia_Vol_I.pdf).

At which step of creating a publication page did you try to upload the file? At the very beginning, so that RG's algorithm has to extract bibliographic metadata automatically, or at the end? I recommend to create the page first, adding bibliographic data by hand, and than upload the file. Perhaps the file is missing metadata. See also this discussion: https://www.researchgate.net/post/How_to_upload_an_article_saved_as_a_PDF. - By the way, you may add or edit metadata in PDF files by using a free software, e.g. PDF24. This is also helpful for Google extracting data about the file to be used in searches.

No, the problem is not solved.
I partially remedied it by uploading only part of the file and adding instructions for the sites where it is possible to download the entire file (sites for which there was no problem uploading the file).
I believe this is a structural flaw in ResearchGate that requires a fix from ResearchGate.

and I think it renders a pdf file you can use (see enclosed file).

I also have a problem with uploading a PDF of a book that I edited. The original file was 250 MB in size which I compressed in two stages down to 40 MB and further to 16 MB. Did not help. Also, the original type was PDF/A-1 for archival purposes. I changed this to PDF version 1.4. Also did not help. Uploading always ends with "Error parsing server response".
Resolution: I tried to insert a book and encountered the same situation. After many attempts, I managed to resolve the issue in the following way:
1 - I manually entered the book data without uploading the PDF.
2 - After publishing the data, I went to "edit" and uploaded the PDF. Even though the error message will appear, the PDF will be added successfully and made public.
3 - After the error message, just go back to your profile and check the availability of the work.
