Indeed, the paper explores affective variables and thus has a value for me. However, I am especially looking for one-time excursions and the paper from Hytti et al., unfortunately, explores effects of a 3 months lasting course.
I've done some immersion courses, and the outcomes were good & learning were documented. But didn't take it to the level of Learning Outcomes, or what I can understand is the internalization of the learnings.
I teach criminal justice. I have taken several of my CJ classes on a tour of a large urban jail. Then I gave the students an assignment to write a short essay on what they learned from the experience. The answers were insightful and it was a good learning experience for the students. The article: "What I Learned in Jail." is on my Research Gate site in full text if you are interested.
thank you very much for your answer. I took a look on your paper; it is interesting as I want to implement such real life cases in my lessons, too -- but within the class room.
Unfortunately, I am rather looking for some quantitative research. Research that may found some evidence about the effect of onetime excursions on measurable affective learning outcomes, or about the optimal length of excursions (which, admittedely, is complex and will likely vary taking context into account, like teaching content and aims of the course).
As a further explanation of my plan: I want to implement entrepreneurship education conducted as onetime intervention in non-business student groups in order to generate a positive impact on affective learning outcomes. The main remaining question which arises: how long should this onetime intervention last? To my knowledge, there is a gap in literature.
