I have read nobel prize speech by prof /Amartya Zen/ where he address complex issues of social choice, but he does only in a theoretical way. My question is: Do you know where i can find empirical results that supports his theories, hypothesis and conclusions? I would appreciate your comments and response.

Have you read his earliest study of famines in India? or the latest study on the Idea of Justice?

I guess Souza spoke about "Poverty and Famine", one of the most famous books of Sen,
In two papers and a monograph I have showed that Sen misstated the facts in his sources on more than 40 occasions in his writings on the Bengal Famine of 1943 - always in a way that would support his hypothesis. In several papers Mark Tauger has shown similar misstatements in other Sen writings on famine. Sen has not denied it, nor has he challenged the evidence produced against him: the evidence is oberwhelming. He has not altered his publications nor withdrawn them. Sen's hypothesis, that there was no shortage of food in Bengal during the famine, is just a restatement of the urban myth popular during the famine, which was used as an excuse by politicians, civil servants and electorates to avoid supplying food to the starving. It is a hypothosis with no theoretical support. Any professional in food and agricultural marketing who presented it with this lack of theory or evidence would be fired. Similar claims of factual inaccuracy have been made of Sen's work in other areas over the years.
Dear Petter my intention is not to defeat the hypothesis of a nobel prize laureate. As I said, I work in the medical field. I just want to enrich my logic.

Hi Ramiro. You might find something by looking at the development discourse around direct cash transfer as it gives ultimate decision making to the recipient. The other place that this is coming into the discourse is around the Australian National Disabiliy insurance Scheme (NDIS) where the push is for 'user choice' .
