I am modelling a cut-and-cover tunnel in PLAXIS under soil static loading. I changed the stiffness of soil medium, so that the internal forces of linings are also changed together. It seems strange because I used linear elastic model for both soil and tunnel linings. Could anyone give me an advice in this situation, please?

Could you explain more about this, please? Because I used a soil density (17 kN/m3) for all different soil types therefore the dead load (static) on the tunnel linings is identical for all cases. Please see the result below.

To be clear, you wonder how the internal force in the lining can be changed when the stiffness of rock mass is modified? (even if both lining and rock mass behaviour are elastic? You can see clearly this interaction between lining and rock mass in the framework of the convergence-confinement method.

Due to ground-shell interaction, the stresses (and forces) in the lining change with changes in the stiffness of shell (lining) or ground or both. Since a more elastic ground material deforms more, it exerts more pressure or load on the lining and hence the lining forces are enhanced. Thus the stiffer the rock mass, the lesser it deforms and the lower are the forces in the lining and vice versa.
