I was wondering, what is the effect on the admission of a student applying for MS, if he/she has a research paper of impact factor say 3 or 4 during his/her BS programme? What I'm trying to say is how does it help one in getting scholarships or admissions even at some of the good universities of the world? Does it increase the chances or decrease them?

Any published paper would result in immediate admission to the M by the university. In addition it would put the student at the top of the list for a bursary or scholarship.
I actually am working on a paper and hope to get it published by December or January. I'll get done with my BS in June 2017 and hope to pursue Stem Cells or Tissue Engineering in US or UK, given I get a scholarship. Fingers crossed.
