In Lepini Mounts (Caccume), Italy, an hardground develop from Lower Cretaceous to Eocene (see attached article). I really don't know if this event start in Barremian-Aptian, but it seems related to distensional phase. The outcrop is very easy to reach from the village of Patrica. Furthermore, brecciated levels, described from the Cenomanian of the Semprevisa (Lepini- see attached), seem to be presents from the Aptian (Marne a Orbitolina). Even if these authors exclude tectonic, Catenacci 1976 provide another interpretation. Finally, some tectonic movements were also recorded in Sorrento Peninsula starting from the Aptian-Albian (see attached). Hope these information will be useful.
the Algarve Basin in south Portugal displays various outcrops where extensional tectonics in Lower Cretaceous syn-rift sediments is clear, shuch as half gragens with wedge growths. In what regards the Tethyan realm the Algarve Basin was the westernmost piece of Eurasian continent that from both tectonic, paleocological point of view gelonged to the Tethyan realm.
Hi Angelo, the following papers deal with Cretaceous extensional tectonics in the Tethys realm.
For the Adria side check: Tavani et al 2015 (Tectonics) in the Prenestini Mts.; Bertok et al., 2012 (Ital. J. Geosci.,) in Sicily; Santantonio et al. 2013 (MPG) Adriatic sea.
For the European side: Bertok et al., 2012 (Sediment. Geol); Cardello and Mancktelow, 2014 (Swiss J. Geosci). Homberg et al 2013 (Bull. Soc. Geol. France). Lamarche et al 2012 (tectonophysics).
Very Interesting Thread. The papers are very useful and my thanks to Pedro and Lorenzo. This will add to my research on the South Atlantic. Thanks Guys ! Frank
