For text-searchable documents, consider switching to Mendeley Desktop version 1.19.5. It can be downloaded directly from https://www.mendeley.com/autoupdates/installers/1.19.5. Don't forget to back up your library first. Be aware this version could be phased out in the future.

Could you divulge a bit more about your existing setup and any error messages? I've had success with Mendeley Desktop 1.19.5 on an Intel Mac. Alternatively, you might find contacting Mendeley's support team beneficial, as they're approachable and helpful.

haven't encountered any error messages, but the search options have undergone some changes that I don't particularly prefer. Previously, I enjoyed the convenience of the "in-text" search for catchwords, but now it seems limited to searching within the info textbox (e.g., title, abstract, author, etc.). Despite reaching out to the Mendeley support team multiple times about this concern, it appears they are committed to this new trend in their software and haven't shown any intention of reverting back to the previous search functionality.

Given your difficulties with Mendeley, alternatives such as Zotero might be worth considering, as they also offer robust text-searchable functions. Do remember to export your references from Mendeley to prevent any data loss during transition. I'm confident you'll find the most suitable solution.

For some reason my old "Mendeley Desktop" version now works. So lets hope I can use it for longer time. I heard about Zotero- I might give it a try.
