Some scholars (e.g., Francis H. Cook, Three Texts on Consciousness Only, p. 3) hold that Xuanzang decided to champion Dharmapāla's interpretation of Vasubandhu's Thirty Verses, choosing to use only four out of ten available commentaries in his Cheng Weishi Lun. However, Dan Lusthaus (Buddhist Phenomenology, p. 399) argues that Kuiji wrongly attributes Sthiramati's positions to Dharmapāla and holds those interpretations to be "correct". Are Sthiramati's, Dharmapāla's or other positions favored in the Cheng weishi lun?
