When, as an educator, I use assessment methods where my students present their assignments to a public, in an open blog or on Facebook, I notice their performance becomes much better than when they just have to respond to me as their teacher. Is this role of the audience in the performance of a student similar to the role of the public in the performance of an actor or a communicator, which improves when the public is supportive. I would like to get a better understanding of this phenomenon, both psychologically and sociologically, but I've been unable, so far, to find any deep treatment of the subject. Can anyone help?
