P-toluenesulfonic acid doped polyaniline is soluble in DMSO and DMF. I am making a composite for which I want to know the organic solvent in which it does not dissolve at all but a good dispersion can be made.
Polyaniline does not dissolve in any solvent, it is truely insoluble. It is only possible to disperse it = prepare a colloidal system. We have done a lot of it, especially (not only but mainly) with pTs doped PAni.
pTs doped PAni is NOT soluble in DMSO or DMF, it forms a colloidal therein (if well prepared).
If you read my articles, you can find the answer to your questions. The best introduction is probably this review:
Polyaniline has solubility in NMP (N-methy- 2-pyrrolidone only in dedoped state (non-conducting) to some extent. But if the polyaniline is doped with p-toluenesulfonic acid, it will increase the solubility of polymer in doped state too.
sorry, no. even undoped PAni is absolutely insoluble, also in NMP. Please study my various publications:
- the one which I cited above
- the original paper: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/202290125_Conductive_Polymer__Solvent_Systems_Solutions_or_Dispersions?ev=srch_pub&_sg=HRUKFWoetkdYRgNHcpdwnihHraOufrh8FQ0iN5PZAbtr0lm1Hmu43fxt5aKtx1vE_0OisMaoKJMEUCsqntG0rYIsoczf%2F%2BhtUsNtDJ3t%2BExCif8exfZt4i9hykAtBbEPS_SHVN5lc33EHMvoqEZUOBHeUpkVJpPUpCCec4EJQMPndhTZacKKmZT%2FRb9%2Bb4HATq
and the respective non-equilibrium thermodynamical explanation (new theory), you can find on my RG page.
Do not simply iuse the term "solution" if you personally by your eyes believe it is a clear solvent / PAni system, blue or green, but transparent; yes, looks like a solution, but our eye can not resolve particles smaller than 1 µm (and down to this size only if using a good microscope - please consider the wavelength of visible light which your eyes can detect!)
PAni primary particles are 10 nm in size, undoped about 5 nm.
I have explained a lot of experimental evidence showing that these systems are not true solutions, but nice dispersions, and before you insist these are solutions, you need to deliver experimental and theoretical evidence disproving what I have published. I am looking forard to it. Let me know what you have and I did not consider!

Yes, the Prof. Bernard Wessling is absolutely true, the PANI is in any state, doped or undoped insoluble. It is possible to enhance the solubility of PANI by modification with various alifatic side chains, however this is rather complicated and thus, benefit of PANI (easy preparation) disapear.
