Does Ni-foam pretreatment affect OER activity?

I'm interested how pretreatment affects the OER catalytic activity of my electrodes in alkaline solution. I'm looking into plain Ni foam, Ni-Al and Ni-Mo foam (fabricated via evaporation) and iron oxide on Ni-foam (electrodeposited).

How should one pretreat such electrodes and why?
