May be the consequence or state of independence seem impossible in a theoratical perspective. But the practicality of thie phenomenon suggests that the important thing is the possession of more independence than the others. Thus independence like any other value such as security, freedom etc. is a comparative institution that will only mean something when possesed in a unique quantity or manner.

Independence as Value, along with the Security and Freedom are pure ... Conventions. Ideal, unreachable states, mostly originated in the greatest manipulation of all times: Human Rights, created to compensate more and more taxes collected by states.

Of, course, the origin of those is philosophical, but they were used... psychological.

I am talking about Independence without forced interpretation through comparison degrees, like " more independent than others".
