In a study I'd piloted, the same group of children were subjected to two types of treatment spaced few months apart. The outcome variable was measured to test the effectiveness of the treatment at 2 intervals (pre and post) at both the visits. Can these two visits (and therefore the two treatments) be considered independent, even though they were carried out in the same group of children?...or are they paired because the variable measured was in the same group?

Please help me understand the "why" behind it too.
