Could EMF generated by a big electricity substation and / or satellite communications facility discourage microbats / interfere with microbat echolocation? Surveys using an Anabat detector in this part of northern Sydney often record few or no calls at all. It is an area with lots of bushland, so habitats are otherwise very good.

Electromagnetic radiation has different nature from the sound or ultrasound wave nature. Electromagnetic waves are composed of electric and magnetic field and they are form of electricity. The ultrasound waves are acoustic waves with frequencies greater than 20kHz, the highest audio signal. So, such waves are pressure waves.
Accordingly, both waves can not directly interfere. The effect on microbat echolocation will be very minor even negligible.
The effect may be indirect by the absorbed EM waves on micro bat. As far i know the animals can withstand high doses from the em radiation.

It is only ultra sound waves that impact micro-bats but not the electro- magnetic waves . The frequency of EMR is different from that of ultra sound. Hence there could be negligible impact of EMR on micro bats.
