During a diet-induced atherosclerosis experiment in Quaker parrots with 1% dietary cholesterol, parrots on cholesterol diet had a stable food consumption over 8 months, while the control group increased its food consumption by 20% in 8 months. Weight was stable over time in both groups and both diets had similar protein-to-calorie ratios.

My question is: could cholesterol feeding decrease metabolic rate, which may partially explain these findings? I haven't been able to find much information.
