Schismatogobius deraniyagalai has been recorded from a number of streams in Kerala and Karnataka, India. See the attached paper by Arunachalam et al. I also include the original description of the species. I assume that Maurice Kottelat can help you further in your quest ([email protected]).

Thank you for your answer and attachment. It's very helpful. The genus is not restricted to just 'islands' but spreading into Indian Ocean as well.

The genus Schismatogobius has not been revised, so you would have to look at individual species accounts.

There are very few records from continental mainland localities. These gobies mainly occur on high islands, some of them, however, on the continental shelf (Taiwan, Sri Lanka), or semi-continental island groups (Philippines, Japan, New Caledonia).

In his fishes of inland waters of Southeast Asia, Kottelat (2013) did not include a single record from mainland Asian waters:
