you just need to know precisely the data format of the *.ismr file.

After you are going to use classical matlab functions (quite similar than in C langage):

- for binary files : for example functions fopen, fread, fclose, etc.

- for text files, for example functions dlmread, textread, etc.

You will find all necessary documentations about these functions in Matlab help

I think you need some parsing software that would parse the log data into text.

In my case, I do not work with matlab but use some open access tools that will do the trick. I use a Cygwin terminal on my Windows computer to deal with the data. Make sure that you have installed "sed" and "gawk" and then it is very easy to play with the ismr data. Just use the following command, while adapting it to the information that you want to read, either all:

cat FILEwithISMRdata | sed 's/,/\t/g' | gawk '{print $0}'

or simply some selected columns, in this case columns 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 7th,8th,14th, 32th:

cat FILEwithISMRdata | sed 's/,/\t/g' | gawk '{print $0}' | gawk '{print $1,$2,$3,$7,$8,$14,$32}' 

The first part of the instruction  sed 's/,/\t/g'  will make it more human readable by changing the separation of files using commas by spaces.
